At first, we weren’t too concerned. Blackouts happen.
We figured it’d be a few hours maybe overnight. But
the hours dragged on. The house got colder. Fast.
By midnight, we could see our breath in the living room.
We clung to our phones the last lifeline. At first, we
checked outage reports. Then weather updates. Then
texts from friends. But the messages slowed… then
stopped. The network collapsed under the load. And by
the time I saw 3% left on my screen, I knew what was
coming.
The last phone died before sunrise. And then real
silence.
